Description of Project: The Cryptid Cast vs. The Goopy Ganker is about the host of a monster themed college radio show that gets herself and her friends wrapped up in an investigation after the mysterious disappearance of two of their classmates. It’s an homage to campy horror classics such as Scooby-Doo, Goosebumps, and Monster Squad. I was lucky to lead this project as my directorial debut with a founding group of 9 students which eventually became a full cast and crew of almost 50. We raised over $2,500 from crowdfunding, covering our production budget of this 45 minute student film and allowing us to submit the film to several festivals.
Description of Production: For our senior capstone project, we knew we wanted to go beyond all expectations. Some students struggle to give 100%, but through this project, we all gave 450%. Far exceeding the 10 minute baseline of the project, creating this film was a test for everyone involved. This was a project of firsts in many ways: First time acting on camera, first time building a cave, first time directing, and so on. This momentous achievement has certainly proved what we’re each capable of, and has proven one thing to be absolutely true: You don’t stand a chance if you don’t take a chance.
Description of Duties: Going into my final year at college, I knew I wanted to write and direct a film of my own. From August of 2021 to May 2022, I was extremely involved in every aspect of production. Outside of my credited duties as Writer & Director, I oversaw casting, producing, production design, editing, crowdfunding, and more. After production ended, I continued to support the project through organizing screenings as well as festival submissions. I’m extremely pleased with the final result, and honored to have received so many awards for our hard work. I couldn’t have asked for a better project for my first foray into directing.
